Abstract
A detergent composition comprises a synergistic mixture of detergent (A) and detergent (B) wherein detergent (A) is a mixture of from 30-70% by weight of component A, from 20-70% by weight of component B and from 2-15% by weight of component C wherein (a) component A is a mixture of double-bond positional iomers of water-soluble salts of alkene-1-sulphonic acids containing from 12-16 carbon atoms, said mixture of positional isomers consisting by weight of 10-25% of alpha-beta unsaturated isomer, 30-70% of beta-gamma unsaturated isomer, 5-25% of gamma-delta unsaturated isomer and 5-10% of delta-epsilon unsaturated isomer; (b) component B is a mixture of water-soluble salts of bifunctionally substituted sulphur-containing saturated aliphatic compounds containing from 12-16 carbon atoms the functional units being hydroxyl and sulphonate radicals with the sulphonate radical always being on the terminal carbon atom and the hydroxyl radical being attached to a carbon atom separated by at least one carbon atom from the terminal carbon; and (c) component C is a mixture consisting of from 30-95% by weight of water-soluble salts of alkene-disulphonates and from 5-70% by weight of water-soluble salts of hydroxy-disulphonates containing from 12-16 carbon atoms, said alkene-disulphonates containing one sulphonate group attached to a terminal carbon atom and the second sulphonate group attached to an internal carbon atom separated by not more than five carbon atoms from said terminal carbon atom, the alkene double-bond being in a position between the terminal carbon atom and the seventh carbon atom, said hydroxy sulphonates being saturated aliphatic compounds having one sulphonate radical attached to a terminal carbon atom, the second sulphonate radical being attached to an internal carbon atom separated by not more than five carbon atoms from said terminal carbon atom and the hydroxy group attached to a carbon atom which is separated by not more than three carbon atoms from the site of attachment of the said second sulphonate group, and wherein detergent (B) is a compound, or a mixture of compounds, selected from the group consisting of (1) zwitterionic quaternary ammonium compounds having the formula <FORM:1073762/C4-C5/1> in which R1 is an alkyl radical containing from 12-14 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each methyl, ethyl, or hydroxyethyl, R4 is an alkylene radical having from 1-4 carbon atoms and B is hydrogen or hydroxyl; (2) a tertiary amine oxide detergent compound having the formula R1R11R111N-->O in which R1 is an alkyl or monohydroxy alkyl radical containing from 12-14 carbon atoms and R11 and R111 are each methyl, ethyl, or hydroxy ethyl; (3) a tertiary phosphine oxide detergent compound having the formula R1R11R111P-->O in which R1, R11 and R111 are as defined above the weight ratio of detergent (A) to detergent (B) being from 5:1 to 1:5. Other additives include inorganic alkaline builder salts, organic sequestering agents and hydrotropes several of each type of compound being mentioned, solubilizers such as the lower aliphatic alcohols, perfumes and water hardness salts such as the alkaline earth sulphates and chlorides.
