Abstract

1,073,651. Struts for picture frames. A. M. GODWIN. Jan. 3, 1966 [Jan. 15, 1965], No. 1785/65. Heading A4H. [Also in Division E2] The strut (10) (Fig. 4) of an easel type picture frame has a leg (7) integrally connected by a thinned part, forming a hinge, to a hub (11) rotatably mounted by a pivot pin (9) on the frame back (6), which is pinned in a rabbeting in the rear surface of the frame. The pivot pin is inserted in a square spigot (18) received in a hole (20) in the back (6) and the opposing surfaces of the spigot and hub have detents which interengage at quarter turns so that a long or short side of the frame can rest on a supporting surface. The pin and spigot are preferably of thermosetting plastics and project from the front face of the back after insertion in the hole. Heating and flattening against the front surface of the back welds the parts together. In modifications the pivot pin is secured by a spring tension fastener or it may be a rivet or nut and bolt.
