Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1073585/C2/1> wherein X represents a chlorine or bromine atom, or a nitro, cyano, amino, monoalkylamino or dialkylamino group, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a nitro-substituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, R represents a haloalkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n is zero or an integer of from 1 to 4; or a salt or a complex thereof with a metal. They may be prepared by reacting the appropriately substituted o-phenylene diamene with the appropriately substituted halogenated acid. Additional halogen atoms may be introduced into the molecule by reacting the appropriate benzimidazoles with chlorine or bromine.ALSO:Pesticidal or herbicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient a compound of general formula: <FORM:1073585/A5-A6/1> wherein X represents a chlorine or bromine atom, or a nitro, cyano, amino, mono alkylamino or dialkylamino group, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a nitro-substituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group; R represents a haloalkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n is zero or an integer of from 1 to 4; or a salt or a complex thereof with a metal; together with a carrier and/or a surface active agent. The compositions may be in the form of a wettable powder, a dust, granules, a solution, an emulsifiable concentrate, a dispersion or an emulsion. The compositions may additionally contain other known pesticides, e.g. 2,4-D, alphanapthylacetic acid, D.D.T., O,O-dimethyl-O-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-phosphate, endrin, dieldrin, aldrin, chlordane, dihydroheptachlor, O,O-dimethyl-5-[2-(ethylsulphinyl)-ethyl] phosphorothioate, dimethyl-2-(alpha-methyl benzoyloxycarbonyl)-1-methylvinyl phosphate, 3-(dimethoxy phosphinyloxy)-N,N-dimethyl crotonamide, rotenone, pyrethrum, copper compounds, ferric dimethyl dithiocarbamate and N-trichloromethylmercapto-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboximide.
