Abstract

[Also in Division H4] In an electric modulator and compander circuit the inputs are sampled and successively passed to a capacitor and transistor network C1, Tr, the output from which is a series of pulse-duration modulated signals which are used to control a start-stop generator G feeding pulses to a binary counter Z. The outputs from the various stages of the counter are fed to a delay line La to give a serial output A. The outputs from the fourth and fifth stages K4, K5 of the counter are also fed via logic circuitry to the resistor transistor circuitry so that the rate of discharge of the capacitor is slowed down after the counter has reached a count of eight and raised to its original discharge rate when the counter has reached twenty-four.
