Abstract

1,072,836. Metal sheet feeds. H. GEORG, [trading as HEINRICH GEORG MASCHINENFABRIK]. Feb. 3, 1966 [Feb. 5, 1965], No. 4837/66. Heading B3W. A shearing line for dividing continuously moving strip metal 5 comprises a feed unit 1 which draws the strip from a roll and forwards it at a speed V to a pair of loop-controlling rollers 6 of which the bottom roller is driven at a speed V/2, a pair of braking rollers 7 of which the bottom roller is driven through a free wheel at a speed of about 3 metres/minute, a pair of high speed feed rollers 10 which are driven at twice the speed of the feed unit 1, a shear 2 which swivels about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the strip in order to make angled cuts across the strip, a driven roller table 3 which runs at the same speed as the high speed feed rollers 10, a pilot contact 14 and a gauging stop 13 which, when it is contacted by the leading end of the strip, initiates the operation of the shear. Operation.-The strip 5 is pushed, by the feed unit 1 through the loop-controlling rollers 6, the braking rollers 7 and the high-speed rollers 10, the upper roller of each pair being at this time raised, by a double-acting hydraulic cylinder, so that the strip passes through freely. A guide 11 leads the strip to the shear 2 and on to the roller table 3. When the leading end of the strip engages the pilot contact 14 the upper, rollers of the pairs 6 and 7 descend and engage the strip, the speed of which is then limited by the braking rollers 7 to a speed of 3 metres/minute. A loop 5a of material forms in front of the roller pair 6 and a second loop 5b forms in front of the roller pair 7. Since the surplus material delivered by the unit 1 is divided between two loops the height of the loops is reduced and the tendency of the strip to tilt sideways is also reduced. When the slowlyadvancing end of the strip contacts the stop 3 the shear 2 operates and during this time the strip is able to be stationary due to the free wheel included in the drive to the braking rollers 7. After the shear has operated the stop 13 is raised clear of the strip, the upper rollers of the pairs 6 and 7 are raised and the upper roller of the pair 10 descends and engages the strip to feed the strip rapidly forward, thus drawing material from the loops 5a and 5b. A delay relay raises the upper roller of the pair 10 after a predetermined interval of time and the strip is then fed forward by the roller table 3 at the speed determined by the feed unit 1.
