Abstract

[Also in Division H2] In order to test the dielectric proportion of the insulation of a conductor bar in the slot of a dynamo-electric machine, a U-shaped capacitive member comprising two metal foils 6, 7 separated by insulation is placed between the insulation 4 and the corona shield 5. A parameter of the current flowing through this capacitor i.e. magnitude, waveform, or phase angle with respect to the applied voltage, may be detected, e.g. with a bridge circuit or dielectric loss analyzer, to indicate the condition of the insulation 4. The dielectric material of the capacitor may be polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate, and the corona shield 5 may be asbestos tape treated with a conductive material or a conductive paint applied to a micaceous insulation.
