Abstract
1,071,975. Automatic power control. SULZER BROTHERS Ltd. Feb. 8, 1966 [March 26, 1965], No. 5495/66. Heading G3R. A locomotive is driven by motors 6 which are supplied from generator 12 coupled to diesel engine 10, displacement of a control lever 1 from a datum position providing a variable signal a which is multiplied by a signal b. The latter is formed by adding a constant signal c, which represents the engine power output for starting the locomotive, to a variable signal V' dependent upon the speed of the locomotive. A speed-proportional signal V is derived from tachometer generator 7 and supplied to limiter 8 whose output is the signal V'. The signal d, which represents the product of the signals a and b, forms a reference signal supplied to controller 9 whose outputs e and g control the fuel injection and the generator excitation respectively. The arrangement is such that, for low-speed operation, the engine is regulated for constant tractive effort, and, at higher speeds for constant power output, the initial tractive effort being determined in accordance with the position of the control lever 1. In another arrangement, the signal a is applied to function generator 22 providing a linear output signal h which is compared with signal k represeriting the traction current. The error signal m is applied to control amplifier 26 whose output n is applied to limiter 21 together with the signal a. The signal n determines the maximum value of the output signal p of the unit 21 in relation to variations of the signal a, the signal p representing the reference value for regulating the power output of the engine.
