Abstract
Water containing silica is ion-exchanged with material having strong-base exchange groups in the hydroxyl form, which removes the dissolved silica, and then treated with hydrofluoric acid to combine with the colloidal silica and form silicofluoride which is removed by ion-exchange. Demineralization and removal of carbon dioxide are optional refinements of the process.
