Abstract
Mono-azo dyes of general formulae <FORM:1071590/C4-C5/1> in which R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl and R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl or a carbalkoxy group with 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group and R1 and R2 together may form a benzene or a naphthalene nucleus which may be substituted and R3 is a radical of the naphthalene series in which the hydroxyl group is in a -position and the azo group in b -position of the naphthalene nucleus, the two formulae being tautomeric, are prepared by reacting a hydrazine compound of formula <FORM:1071590/C4-C5/2> with one mole of an o-quinine compound of the naphthalene series, all starting components being free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. The dyes are prepared preferably in weakly to strong acid aqueous or aqueous organic media at room temperature to boiling temperature. The dyes give blue shades in nickel-modified polypropylene.ALSO:Metal modified polypropylene fibres are dyed with azo dyes of formulae <FORM:1071590/D1-D2/1> in which R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, and R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl or a carbalkoxy group with 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical, and in which R1 and R2 may together form a benzene or naphthalene nucleus which may be substituted, R3 is a radical of the naphthalene series in p which the hydroxyl group is in the a -position and the azo group in the adjacent b -position the dyes being free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. The above formulae are tantoneric. In example 1 nickel modified polypropylene is dyed at pH 5-6 whilst boiling for 1 hour giving a blue shade.
