Abstract

1,071,543. Measuring pressure electrically. MICROMATIC HONE CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1965 [March 11, 1964], No.6815/65. Heading G1N. A variable capacitance pressure transducer includes a housing 12, 16, 14, Fig. 2, an adjustably fixed electrode 28, and a flexible electrode 22 subjected to fluid pressure through an opening 40. The position of the fixed electrode 28 is adjustable by means of at least three screws 30, which are held in tension over the range of adjustment by resilient washers 38; and the electrode 22 effectively divides the interior of the housing into two chambers 20a, and 20b. The two electrodes may alternatively be cantilevered from an off-axis position in the housing Fig. 4 (not shown), an insulating block (76) with a bolt (78) and an insulating sleeve (108) being used to retain the electrodes (72, 74). In this case the fixed electrode (72) is adjusted by screws (88) which engage an insulating member (86) attached to the electrode, and the position of the movable electrode is varied by means of a pin (80) connected thereto and bearing on a bellows (66) subjected to the fluid pressure to be measured. A sealing ring (68) associated with the bellows divides the interior of the housing (52, 54, 56) into two chambers (60, and 64). A coaxial output connector is provided in the housing in both cases, the central pin thereof being connected to one electrode by a wire 46, Fig. 2 (105, Fig. 4 (not shown)), and the outer shell being connected to the other electrode via the housing.
