Abstract

1,071,288. Percussive drills. INGERSOLL - RAND CO. Sept. 14, 1965 [May 12, 1965], No. 39114/65. Heading B4C. A rock-drill coupling and rod system comprises rods 12, 14 having threads 24 joined by a coupling 16, the threads in the coupling being of a common lead and being initiated from each end of the coupling so that they are circumferentially offset from each other. The threads in the coupling are arranged to reach the mid-point in order to allow the ends of the rods to abut as shown, but preventing either rod to be screwed right through the coupling. The rods are provided with a hole 22 for clearing and cooling purposes and a groove 26 is formed on the thread in order to carry a lubricant into the coupling thread.
