Abstract
1,070,342. Boots &c. INTERNATIONAL SAFETY PRODUCTS Ltd. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 21, 1965], No. 2792/65. Heading A3B. A toe cap 11, e.g. of steel, for protective footwear is made symmetrical about a vertical plane extending lengthwise through the toe cap 11 so that the toe cap can be used for both left and right shoes. The toe caps are made two at a time by making a pressing having the shape of two toe caps arranged back to back and then separating the caps by two parallel cuts 17, the position of each cut 17 determining the size of the toe cap. The split pressing is then trimmed to form a base extended at an angle of 83 degrees to the plane of the cuts 17 and the base is turned in to form a. flange 25. The shoe is made on a last (not shown) having a symmetrical toe part, the plane of symmetry being inclined at an angle of 3 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the last.
