Abstract

The invention comprises a 5-O-nicotinoyl-pyridoxine of formula <FORM:1070120/C2/1> The compound is prepared by reacting a 4,3-O-alkylidene-pyridoxine of formula <FORM:1070120/C2/2> where A is an alkylidene group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, with a nicotinoyl halide or nicotinic anhydride to obtain a 4,3-O-alkylidene-a 5-O-nicotinoyl-pyridoxine of formula <FORM:1070120/C2/3> which is then hydrolysed to a 5-O-nicotinoyl-pyridoxine. Examples are given. a 5-O-Nicotinoyl-pyridoxide may be mixed with a physiologically acceptable carrier and used to prevent lipoidosis, e.g. arteriosclerosis or cholesterolemia.
