Abstract

The catalytic production at elevated temperatures of pyridine and picolines from a gaseous mixture comprising acrolein, acetaldehyde and ammonia is conducted in the presence of molecular oxygen. Steam may be included in the reaction mixture and at least part of the acetaldehyde may be replaced by paraldehyde. Specified catalysts are dehydration and/or cracking catalysts which may further comprise oxides and/or salts of metals and/or ammonia.
