Abstract
Mixed isomeric butenes are reacted with 4-tert-butylphenol (I) in presence of an alkylation catalyst at elevated temperature, giving 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol, possibly mixed with 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol; the product may be further reacted with phenol, under similar conditions, giving (I). All reaction products are said to be substantially free of sec-butylphenols.
