In a system including a hydraulic pump for supplying liquid to apparatus, changes of force or pressure of the apparatus from a desired value develop signals which, after integration, serve to correct the force or pressure by automatically controlling pump delivery. As shown, electrical signals representative of deviations of pressure in a vessel 1 from a desired value set on a unit 20 are derived from a comparator 22 and applied through an integrating velodyne 23 to adjust the position of potentiometers 25. Each potentiometer 25 controls, through an amplifier 12, the delivery of an adjustable swash-plate pump 6 supplying a hydraulic motor 7. Motors 7 drive fixed swash-plate pumps 2 supplying liquid to a vessel 1 and the drive adjustment is such as to restore the pressure in vessel 1 to the desired value. Feedback signals dependent on the settings of pumps 6 and the hydraulic pressures applied to motors 7 are applied to amplifiers 12 through lines 15 and 18 respectively. The plurality of pumps ensures satisfactory operation in the event of failure of one of them. Application to the maintenance of constant force or torque of a hydraulic motor or ram is referred to. Pumps 6 may supply a load directly.
