106,842. Joyce, W. May 6, 1916. Affixing by adhesives.- Tissue on window envelopes is fixed by a supplemental plunger working in the main plunger which folds the blank. The tissue may be supplied in sheets or cut from a web Fig. 4 shows a machine in which the tissue is supplied from a reel 18, and is fed by grooved rollers 20, 20<a> between guide plates 26 which are shaped to enter the grooves in the rollers. The web may be fed forwards solely by the rollers 20, 20<a> to the reciprocating channelled slide 16, or, as shown, by means of an additional pair of grippers 30, 31 reciprocated in the slide 16 by a crank 29 and opened by a spring 33. The grippers are closed by a cam 38 on a spindle carrying an arm which coacts with fixed stops 40, 42 near the ends of the stroke of the grippers. The tissue having been positioned between the main plunger 1 and the hollow supplemental plunger 7, the face of which is lined with rubber or a similar material and perforated, the latter is lowered on to the guttered slide and the tissue is held by the vacuum in the hollow spindle 6<a> and the tissue is cut off by the cutting edges 6<c>, 1<b>. Both plungers then descend on to the gummed envelope blank which is pressed down into the folding box 2. Fig. 10 shows a device for feeding cut sheets of tissue from a store box 44 to grippers situated as previously described between the plungers 1, 6. The pile of sheets is raised by a spring 50 and is kept in place by a press roller 52 and springs 55. A suction nozzle separator 58 is carried by a lever 60 which also releases the presser roller 52.
