1,068,207. Typewriters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 19, 1965 [Sept. 21, 1964], No. 35540/65. Heading B6F. Type - bar machines; variable impression arrangements.-An electric power - operated typewriter in which the type bars are actuated by cams 23 articulated to type bar cam levers 24 through a continuously rotating snatch roller 10 is provided with a primary impression adjustment knock off bar 51 and a secondary impression adjustment knock off bar 63 for adjustment of the impression densities of characters having a large or a small impression area. The primary knock off arrangement comprises a lever 61 having a scale 62 calibrated in terms of density of impression and articulated through a link 60 to a lever 59 attached to a cam 58 which rocks the knock off plate 51 whose spring fingers 50 associated with arms 28 of respective cams 23 vary the time of engagement of the cams with the roller 10. Uniform impression density is obtained by setting of the individual screws 53, which are set high for characters having a small impression area and vice versa. To prevent cutting of the paper of the top copy especially in the case of the small impression area characters when a large number of second copies is required the second knock off arrangement comprises a stationary bar 63 on which is mounted a corresponding plurality of set screws 64 which are set in such a manner as to limit the impression of the characters irrespective of the setting of the primary knock off arrangement.
