Abstract

Epoxide polymerization catalysts comprise zirconium tetra (benzoylacetonate) and an aluminium teralkyl or an aluminium dialkyl halide. Propylene oxide is added to a tube containing a catalyst comprising zirconium benzoylacetonate and aluminium triethyl complex. The polymer product was dissolved in benzene and extracted with MeOH and HCl. The product was a tough rubber having an intrinsic viscosity of 3.ALSO:This Specification is an improvement in or modification of p Specification 1,040,382 in that as a further example of b -diketone chelates of zirconium, for combination with aluminium trialkyl or aluminium dialkyl halide compounds as polymerisation catalysts, use is made of zirconium teltra (benzoylacetonate).
