[Also in Division B6] A web accumulating device of the type described in parent Specification, has the rotatable table 12 provided with a plurality of retractable coil restraining abutments or fingers 16. These abutments are pivotally mounted below the surface of the table 12 or the plane formed by the upper surfaces of radial support members (12c), Fig. 1 (not shown). Until such time as the web being advanced to a machine has substantially exhausted the innermost coils 28, the abutments 16 are maintained in an upwardly extending or operative position to restrain the outermost set of convolutions 27 as they are wound on to the coil. Retraction of the abutments 16 to allow the outermost set of convolutions 27 to collapse on to the innermost set 28 is controlled by web edge sensing elements 4 which detect the withdrawal of the last of the convolutions of the innermost set 27. These sensing elements 4 are connected to a solenoid operated valve means 7 which when operated release the air pressure to the cylinder 6 of the retracting mechanism. The table 12 is rotated by the friction between the web edges and the table as the web is withdrawn. This friction may be maintained with a hold down roller 5. Controls.-As in the parent Specification, the tension sensing roller 23 drops if there is a break in the incoming web thereby operating the switch 25 to halt the rotation of the table 12 with a brake 3. The switch further operates the valve 7 so that the abutments 16 are retracted to allow the outermost set of convolutions 28 to collapse on to the innermost set 27. The tension sensing device 30 initiates the rotation of the table 12 when the web tension increases, as in the parent Specification, but the rotation may be initiated with a " kicking " means 15 instead of a variable speed motor, withdrawal of the web causing the continued rotation of the table 12. Alternatively, the rotation may be initiated by a sensing device 36 with a spring biased arm 37 which senses the collapse of the outermost convolution of the coil 27. The abutments 16 are moved to their projecting positions as the table begins to rotate.
