Abstract
1,067,451. Blasting. SPENCER & HALSTEAD Ltd., and W. M. ODDIE. June 15, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13126/63. Heading B3D. The blast chamber of blast cleaning plant includes one or more abrasive impellers provided with means for automatically oscillating or partly rotating the plane of rotation of said impellers relatively to a workpiece or workpieces in the chamber, the said means being triggered off by the workpiece or workpieces. A workpiece 1 of fabricated or other nature having flanges 2, 3 is passed through a blast chamber. Mounted in a side wall and in the roof of the chamber are movable sections 4, 6 carrying rotary impellers 5, 7. The section 4 is actuated by lever or like mechanism 8 operated by an electric motor 9; the section 6 is actuated by lever or like mechanism 10 operated by a motor 11. Limit switches 12, 13 are connected to the motors 9, 11 through control boxes 9A, 11A and are provided with trip levers 14, 15. The blast streams from the impellers 5, 7 are initially at 90 degrees to the side and top of the workpiece. When the flanges 2, 3 contact the trip levers 14, 15 the motors 9, 11 are started and the sections 4, 6 are rotated, e.g. through 45 degrees, so that the blast streams clean the approaching faces of the flanges. Thereafter the sections rotate, e.g. through 90 degrees, so that the blast streams clean the receding faces of the flanges. The sections then return to their initial positions. The rotation of the sections may be controlled by a master pattern, multiple cams, pin discs, punched tapes or the like to suit the workpiece being treated.
