Abstract

1,067,411. Windscreen wipers. DUDLEYS (REDDITCH) Ltd. Feb. 14, 1966 [Dec. 12, 1964], No. 50706/64. Heading A4F. A windscreen wiper blade comprising two auxiliary bridges 16 pivotally mounted on a main bridge 11 and supporting a rubber or rubber-like squeegee 22, is provided with a spring 29 mounted intermediate the auxiliary bridges and arranged to urge the portion of the squeegee intermediate its ends away from the main bridge so that, when the wiper blade is in use, intimate contact of the entire length of the squeegee with the surface to be cleaned can be ensured. Slots (21) (Fig. 2, not shown) are provided in opposite sides of the squeegee which comprises a metallic backing plate 23 and a wiping edge (26) and these slots (21) receive C-shaped collars 20 provided at each end of the auxiliary bridges 16. The spring 29 may be a coil spring or alternatively a leaf spring in which case the leaf spring is attached at its centre to the squeegee by a C-shaped collar 30 which engages the slots 21 and is arranged so that its free ends 31 abut the main bridge, the main bridge being U-shaped in crosssection to accommodate the ends 31 of the spring 29 and to prevent lateral movement of the ends with respect to the longitudinal direction of the main bridge.
