Abstract

1,067,366. Transistor gating circuits. MINISTER OF AVIATION. April 29, 1965 [April 30, 1964], No. 17986/64. Heading H3T. In a circuit for selecting or rejecting the largest of a plurality of signals, the signals are applied to the emitters of respective transistors and the resulting voltage developed across a common base load by the largest signal holds the other transistors off. The largest of the input signals I1-In raises the potential at the base of the corresponding transistors T1-Tn to a value almost equal to the signal and thus ensures that the other of the transistors T1-Tn are cut-off. Accordingly only the largest signal will appear across the corresponding collector resistor R1-Rn. These resistors may be chosen such that the conducting transistor saturates and the corresponding one of transistors T<SP>1</SP>1-T<SP>1</SP>n will then be cut-off, the others continuing to amplify. Accordingly only the largest signal does not appear at terminals O<SP>1</SP>1-O<SP>1</SP>n. It is stated that one or more of the resistors R1-Rn may be returned to difference voltage sources and that transistors T<SP>1</SP>1-T<SP>1</SP>n may be replaced by alternative gates.
