Abstract

A coating composition comprises (i) a solution, in ethyl acetate, containing 30% by weight, of a polyurethane, obtained from a polyester prepolymer modified by an isocyanate, and 5% by weight of a cross-linking agent which is the condensation product of a triisocyanate and a methylolpropane; (ii) a solution, in trichloroethylene, containing 30% by weight, of a synthetic rubber known as "Neoprene WRT" and 10% by weight of 2-mercapto imidazoline; or (iii) a solution, in methyl ethyl ketone, containing a polyurethane rubber obtained by modifying a polyester prepolymer with an isocyanate and 4% by weight of a cross-linking agent which is the condensation product of tolylene diisocyanate and a polyalcohol. Coatings of the above compositions may be further coated with compositions containing (i) linear polyurethanes in tetrahydrofuran or cyclohexanone, and a ternary polyamide consisting of 20% hexamethylene diamine adipate, 50% caprolactam, and 30% hexamethylene diamine sebacate.ALSO:A heat-sealable elastomer-coated structure comprises a textile support carrying a cross-linked natural or synthetic rubber and, on said rubber, a thermoplastic linear polyurethane or copolyamide. The structure may be produced by applying to a textile support a cross-linkable natural or synthetic rubber e.g. a polyurethane rubber, and, directly to the rubber, a non cross linkable thermoplastic linear polyurethane or copolyamide, and cross-linking the cross-linkable rubber. The cross-linkable rubber and the thermoplastic linear polyamide may be applied in solution and the solvents are evaporated before the cross linking is effected. The textile support may be a woven fabric knitted fabric or a non woven textile, and may be made from polyamide filaments or polyethylene terephthalate yarns. The rubber may be applied by doctoring, impregnation or calendering and the polyurethane or copolyamide may be applied thereto by doctoring or spraying.
