Abstract

1,066,767. Lathes. G. LEINEN, [trading as BOLEY & LEINEN]. Sept. 25, 1964 [Oct. 1, 1963], No. 39152/64. Headings B3B and B3T' A turret lathe comprises two indexible tool turrets (7) and (16), Figs, 1 and 2 (not shown), the first turret (7) is mounted on a carriage (4) which is displaceable parallel to the axis of the lathe spindle (33), Figs. 3 and 6 (not shown). The second turret (16) is mounted on a carriage (5) displaceable on the carriage (4) at rightangles to the spindle axis (33). Individually adjustable stops (18) on a stop disc (22) for each tool (17) are provided on the turret (16). The operation of the lathe may be effected automatically via an electro-coupling (44<SP>1</SP>) or by hand wheels (51) and (56) effecting movement of the respective carriages (4) and (5). Further control of the tool turrets is effected by a stop drum (8) with stops (10) and (10<SP>1</SP>) for the turret (16) and a stop drum (9) with stops (11), (11<SP>1</SP>) for the turret (7). Means are provided for indexing the turrets independently when the carriages are retracted to their rest positions. The respective tools (17) on turret (16) are held in an operative position on a tool arm 19 via electro-magnetic means 26 which holds a respective stop (18) against the tool arm 19 and which functions in co-operation with stops 23 on the rotary stop disc 22. The drive for the lathe is provided by a motor 31, which through gear trains and the electromagnet coupling 44<SP>1</SP> drives each of the turret operating mechanism which incorporates a rack-andpinion.
