Abstract

1,066,518. Helical-scan recorders. LOEWE OPTA A.G. Sept. 27, 1965 [Sept. 26, 1964], No. 40988/65. Heading G5R. The two guide-drum halves 18, 19, Fig. 3, are joined by a fixed spindle 21 carrying bearing sleeves 32, 33 about which rotates the structure 29, belt-driven by a motor 12 outside the guide-drum and carrying the head-wheel 16. Slip-rings 26-28 and brushes 35-37 connect the head 17 to a stationary, printed-circuit amplifier on a circular board 34 inside the drum. The head may alternatively be coupled to the amplifier through a transformer. An eddy-current brake disc 32, Fig. 4, cooperates with an electromagnet 41. The motor 12 is asynchronous and tends to drive the wheel 16 some 6% fast, the brake pulling the speed down to synchronism. An iron insert 44 in the disc, detected by head 45, provides tachometric pulses for recording along one edge of the magnetic tape for use with known servo speed-control means on playback.
