Abstract
The invention comprises nitric acid addition salts containing substantially equimolar proportions of 3-unsubstituted 2-oxo-tetrahydroimidazoles containing in the 1-position a thiazolyl-(2) residue unsubstituted in the 5-position and of nitric acid, and a process for the preparation of 3-unsubstituted 2-oxo-tetrahydro-imidazoles containing in the 1-position a 5-nitro-thiazolyl-(2) residue by treating a compound of the invention with an acidic agent, e.g. a mineral acid. The nitric acid addition salts are prepared by reacting the free compound with a slight excess of nitric acid, preferably concentrated nitric acid, in the presence of a suitable solvent, e.g. acetic acid. 1 - [Thiazolyl - (2)] - 2 - oxo - tetrahydro-imidazole is prepared by reacting 2-amino-thiazole with chloroethyl isocyanate and cyclizing the resulting product by treatment with sodium hydroxide.
