Abstract
1,064,015. Sewing machines. W. J. CLARKSON. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1966, [March 11, 1965], No. 10346/65. Addition to 978,872. Heading DIG. A sewing machine comprises a work-feeding template 1 having upper and lower plates, a guide track 5 in the lower plate 3, a fixed guide element 7 entering track 5 and having a needle passage hole 10 and a knife passage slot 11, a presser foot having a needle passage hole aligned with hole 10, a knife aligned with slot 11, and driving means for causing movement of the template in its own plane. As shown, the driving means comprises a disc 19 journalled at 20 on a lever arm 21, the latter being spring biased to engage disc 19 with the edge 6 of template 1. A driving lever 26 is pivoted at one end at 20 and has a sliding connection 38 at its other end with one end of a pitman 29 coupled by a ball joint 30 at its other end to a crank 31 on the feed-advance shaft. A pawl 25, pivoted at 27 to lever 26 and biased by a spring 28 into engagement with a friction disc 24 rigid with disc 19, thereby serves to rotate the latter intermittently to shift template 1. A fixed guide block 33 is located in the trailing segmental gap between disc 19 and edge 6. A cam track 35 in plate 3 is engaged by a pin 36 at one end of a rod 37, the other end of which is connected to pitman 29, to alter the effective length of lever 26 for varying the stitch length while sewing around corners.
