Abstract
To form a fold line in e.g. a shirt collar or cuff which includes a lining or interlining composed of at least two layers, one meltable and another non-meltable or having a higher melting point, the meltable layer is melted along the fold line by means of a heated blade or other tool. Suggested meltable materials include cellulose- or tri-cellulose acetate, nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene and polyesters in woven, knitted, bonded nonwoven or sheet form. Suggested non meltable materials are cellulosic materials or woven cotton. The layers are preferably joined by means of adhesive, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene and polyamide, applied discontinuously or by the interposition of a perforated thermoplastic sheet of e.g. polyethylene. The channel forming the fold line may be less than 1/16 inch or as much as 3/16 inch, preferably 1/16 to 3/32 inch. In examples, for a polyester layer joined to a woven cotton layer, the tool would be heated to about 300 DEG C.; for a polypropylene layer joined to a nylon layer by sheet polyethylene, the tool would be heated to about 200 DEG C.
