Abstract

106,376. Clyde Furnace Co., and Dixon, W. Aug. 17, 1916. Repairs, facilitating.- The walls and other parts of open-hearth furnaces are repaired by securing a retaining-plate c in front of the burnt out cavity, and filling in behind it refractory material in a plastic or semi-liquid state. The plate may be of metal, fire-clay, or other refractory material, which will not burn away before the filling has set. When a repair is to be effected between the doors, the plate is secured in position by bolts d passing through the door opening and strips d'. A bent portion c<1> of the plate facilitates the filling in of the plastic material.
