Abstract
A process for the production of hollow articles comprises introducing a measured quantity of a solid polyvinyl resin powder composition into a hollow mould, subjecting the mould to rotation in at least two planes simultaneously and heating the mould, to distribute the powder over the inner surface of the mould and fuse it to a homogeneous mass thereon, and thereafter cooling the mould and removing the finished article therefrom. The mould is preferably heated to 350-400 DEG F. Preferably the mould is water cooled. The polyvinyl resin powder composition consists of a major amount of a polyvinyl resin exhibiting an accelerated rate of fusion and whose particles are porous, liquid absorbing and uniform in size, preferably a polyvinyl chloride resin prepared by a suspension polymerization process, of particle size 30-200 microns, and a minor amount of a polyvinyl resin of fine particle size, not greater than 15 microns, preferably a polyvinyl chloride resin prepared by emulsion polymerization. Other ingredients of the powder may include plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers, pigments, lubricants and mould releasing agents. The powder is preferably blended in a blade type mixing apparatus.
