Abstract

1,063,023. Photo-electric colorimeters. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI RESZVENTYTARSASAG. April 20, 1964, No. 16290/64. Heading G1A. A colorimeter for the direct reading of the chromaticity co-ordinates, or deviations from predetermined co-ordinates, has at least three colour filters and one or more photo-electric detectors and utilizes separate arrangements of variable resistances for reading each chromaticity co-ordinate. The colorimeter may be used in checking the chromaticities of fluorescent lamps and includes three photo-cells X, Y, Z e.g. selenium cells each arranged to have a specific spectral sensitivity by use of a corresponding colour filter, which may be coloured glass or an interference filter wedge. The photo-cells can be switched individually, or all three together, into the colorimeter circuit by means of a fourway switch 11. In position I, for example, cell X is connected to the slide contacts of its particular arrangement of variable resistors 13, 14 while in position IV, all three cells are connected to the common end points of the resistance arrangements. Initial zeroing of the centre-zero galvanometer 21 is accomplished with the switch in position IV, by balancing the total current from the cells with the auxiliary current from a battery 19, by adjustment of variable resistor 20. Thus when any one of the cells is switched into circuit, the galvanometer is rezeroed by movement of the sliders along the particular resistance arrangement. The particular chromaticity co-ordinate is read off as the ratio of the resistance between the slide points to the resistance between the end points of the resistance arrangement. The coordinate Values may be preset on the variable resistance by previous positioning of the sliders, and deviations from these values read off as deflections of the galvanometer which has previously been calibrated. Further variable resistance arrangements are possible e.g. Fig. 3 (not shown). Various exemplary values for the variable resistances, which may be banks of equal resistors, are given.
