Abstract

1,062,964. Space heater; air supply for gas stoves. P. KREIS. July 9, 1964 [July 11, 1963; Oct. 17, 1963], No. 28273/64. Headings F4S and F4W. A gas or liquid fuel fired heater comprises a combustion chamber 2, Fig. 1, containing at its bottom end a burner 6, characterized in that the chamber rises vertically into the enclosure to be heated and has connected to it a heating chamber 9, which downwardly deflects the flow of rising hot gases, and is thermally insulated from this flow by insulation 3. Combustion air enters orifices 7 and leaves the cylindrical combustion chamber at 4, the flow descending through compartment 9 and being disturbed by deflectors 18 and 19, and leaving via exit spigot 13 whose aperture 16 extends to the atmosphere and is screened from the incoming fresh air by baffle plate 22. External flanges 15 fix the heater to a floor. External ribs or fins (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), may be provided on the casing (10) to increase heat emission. Fig. 8 shows a heater where the heating chamber 115 is disposed to one side of the combustion chamber 101 and comprises deflecting channels 109, 110, 111 and 112 alternating with cross channels 106, 107 and 108 forming 180 degree deflectors. Air spaces 116, 117, 118 and 119 provide heat insulation between the various sections. The fresh air and waste gas orifices are placed below the space to be heated. At a level with the burner orifices there are transverse slots or gaps 128 to reduce flame noise. Fig. 4 shows the heater to be made from two parallel side walls 120 which are cut to provide the air insulation gaps, and are interconnected by cross-walls 121 to define the combustion and deflection chambers. Bolts passing through bores 122 clamp the heater parts together. Fig. 5 (not shown) shows how the heater can be made from two welded shells joined to a central portion. The waste gases may leave the heater through an aperture (113), Fig. 3 (not shown), or enter an annexe chamber 213, Fig. 8, and leave via a chimney pipe 230 through a wall or roof. The pipe 235 serves to remove any condensation which may form. The heater may be mounted on a box structure 242, Fig. 12, with the burner assembly and annexe chamber extending into the compartments separated by partition 249 (Figs. 11 and 14, not shown). An extension of the box extends through an outer wall 241. One of the burner orifices may be covered with a metal screen to form a pole for a sparking plug which will initiate combustion.
