Abstract

1,061,564. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 22, 1962], No. 44115/62. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre comprises a carcass 2, a tread strip 5 and a textile rope 4, which constitutes a wear-indicating means, embedded in the tread rubber, extending along the mid-circumference of the tread and encircling the carcass 2. The rope is formed of " Terylene " (Registered Trade Mark) or cotton so that when the tread is worn away the rope frays. The tyre is built on a former by consecutively applying the carcass 2, a pair of steel cord breaker layers 3, the rope 4 and finally the rubber sidewall and tread strip 5 which is provided with a mid-circumferential groove 6 to accommodate the rope. The tyre is then moulded and vulcanized. The rope 4 may be fitted into the groove 6 before assembly of the tyre.
