Abstract

A laminate used as a leather substitute comprises a layer of textile material and a plastics layer made porous by projection of fibres of flocked tissue therethrough, by vibratory electrostatic or other means. A layer of P.V.C. foam may be included between the textile and the flocked layer or between a flocked surface layer and a similar layer adhered to the textile base. The fibres of the flocked layer or layers may be animal, vegetable, mineral or synthetic, the plastics layer may be of plasticized P.V.C. or of a composition containing a P.V.C./P.V. acetate copolymer, an acrylic or polyurethane resin and a ketone solvent, and the foam layer of plasticized P.V.C. The layers may be formed by direct successive coating or coating on a support from which they are subsequently stripped.
