Abstract

A sewing machine needle consists solely of two parts, one part being a pointed blade having a longitudinal groove extending from the point and an eye aligned with the groove adjacent the eye, and the other part being a separate enlarged shank fixedly secured to the blade. The shank, which may be either of plastics or metal, may be formed around the blade by injection moulding or by sintering powdered metal in a mould. The shank may alternatively be formed from tubular material forced over the blade, or may be in solid form initially and be brazed or welded to the blade.
