Abstract

[Also in Division F1 In a mechanism for converting the reciprocating motion of a member 7, e.g. a connecting rod disposed between, and rigidly connected to, two stepped pistons 4, 5, into rotary motion of a shaft 18, a link 9, co-operating with an eccentric 19 or a crank-pin of the shaft 18, is pivoted at one end 14 about a fixed point 16 and is longitudinally slidable relative thereto, and is pivoted at the other end 13 to the member 7, being also slidable transversely thereto. As shown, a block 11 pivoted to a bracket 8 of the member 7 is slidable in a longitudinal slot in the end 13 of link 9, while the end 14 of the link forms a piston acting in a sleeve 15 pivoted at 16 to pump lubricant from an oil sump 21 to the parts of the mechanism. The device is stated to give lower piston side pressure than the normal slider crank linkage, the maximum side pressure coinciding with minimum piston speed.
