Abstract

1,060,249. Printing processes. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. May 6, 1965 [July 13, 1964], No. 29129/64. Heading B6C. [Also in Division B5] A decorated shaped container of synthetic organic thermoplastic material is formed by printing a distorted pattern upon a preformed container blank and subsequently re-shaping the blank on a mandrel the required pattern thus being formed. A container 1 is decorated with a printed pattern D and transported by a double wire conveyer 2 to a mandrel 6 to which it is transferred by suction. The mandrel is mounted upon a rotating carrier 7 and container is passed thereon through preheating and heating ovens 20, 21, respectively, and hence to a station 22 at which the heat softened container is sucked into configuration with the mandrel. The shaped container is then cooled at 23 and finally blown off the mandrel at station 24 into a hopper 32 or on to a conveyor 33. The mandrel itself is rotated during the heating, forming and cooling steps by interengagement of pinion 18, mounted thereon, and fixed arcuate gear 19.
