Abstract

Photographic film base, which may be in the form of a roll, is marked for identification purposes by applying to the edge of the film or to an end-face of the roll, a substance which fluoresces in ultra-violet light. The fluorescent substance may be hydrophobic such as 4-methyl - 6 - diethylamino - coumarone, 2,4-diphenyl - 6 - styryl - pyrylium perchlorate, 4,41 - bis - (4,6 - dianilino - s - triazin - 2 -ylamino) stilbene, anisylidene barbituric acid or dimethylamino-benzylidene barbituric acid. If the film base is provided with a hydrophilic layer, a hydrophilic fluorescent substance may be used such as a bis-(s-triazin-2-ylamino) stilbene disulphonate.ALSO:A roll of film base is marked for identification purposes by applying to an end face thereof a substance which fluoresces in ultra-violet light. The fluorescent substance may be hydrophobic such as 4-methyl-6-diethylaminocoumarone, 2,4 - diphenyl - 6 - styryl - pyrylium perchlorate, 4,4'-bis(4,6-dianilino-s-triazin-2-ylamino)-stilbene, anisylidene barbituric acid or dimethylamino-benzylidene barbituric acid. If the film base is provided with a hydrophilic colloid layer, a hydrophilic fluorescent substance may be used such as a bis(s-triazin-2-ylamino) stilbene disulphonate.
