Abstract

The invention comprises basically substituted esters of cycloalkanol carboxylic acids of the general Formula (I) <FORM:1059347/C2/1> wherein A is a butylene-1,4 radical, X is an ethylene radical, Y is a dialkylamino, pyrrolidino, piperidino or hexamethyleneimino radical and R is a benzyl radical or a C1 to C8 alkyl radical, or an acid addition salt thereof. These esters may be prepared by reducing a compound of the general Formula (II) <FORM:1059347/C2/2> or an acid addition salt thereof. The reduction is preferably effected by using aluminium analgam in moist ether, or an alkali metal boro-hydride, or by the method of Meerwein-Pondorf. The esters of Formula (II), some of which are claimed in Specification 1,059,348, may be prepared by reacting the corresponding cycloalkanone carboxylates of Formula (III) <FORM:1059347/C2/3> in the form of their alkali metal compounds with haloalkylamines of Formula Z-X-Y, wherein Z is a halogen atom. The compounds of Formula (I) have antitussive, anaesthetic and analgesic properties.
