Abstract
1,059,035. Breathing apparatus. B. PALANDRI. Feb. 11, 1964 [Feb. 11, 1963], No. 5572/64. Heading A5T. A breathing apparatus for submarine diving, comprises a mask 12 and a lung bag 10 which receives breathing mixture from cylinder 11 via control means, and exhaled gas via conduit 13, and which contains means 15 for removing carbon dioxide from the exhaled gas, and device 17 which meters oxygen supplied by cylinder 18, into the bag and mixes it with the breathing mixture and exhaled air, the oxygen containing mixture being inhailed via conduit 16. The device 17 meters the oxygen into the bag in a quantity corresponding to the intensity and frequency of the breathing functions. The supply of oxygen to the device 17 is controlled to correspond with the various conditions met in diving procedures. In one embodiment the oxygen is supplied from cylinder 18 to jacket 22 forming a second lung bag, which is connected to device 17 by duct 24. A valve 23 controls the passage vent of duct 24 to change the oxygen flow therethrough depending on the diving depth. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the oxygen is supplied to device (17) via an equalising and metering device (220) which acts by varying the pressure of the oxygen delivered from the cylinder (18) in such a way that the oxygen pressure downstream of the equaliser is equal to the gas pressure of the lung bag (10). The supply of mixture from cylinder (11) to bag (10) may be controlled by a device sensitive to the barometric pressure. The bag 10 may provided with valves 27, 28 to vent the bag.
