Abstract

1,058,231. Refrigerating. DUNHAM-BUSH Inc. Oct. 21, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 41472/63. Heading F4H. An evaporative heat exchanger, e.g. the condenser of a refrigerating system, comprises an outer casing having an air inlet 22 and outlet 40, an inner casing 33 containing the condenser coil, blowers 24 for directing air into the space 32 between the casings 20 and 33 and apertures 52 for admitting air into the inner casing 33. The latter comprises an upper portion 36 containing the condenser coil and a spray header 77, and a lower sump portion 34 from which water is withdrawn by a pump 31 and supplied to the header 77. The apertures 52 are formed in the sump 34 and have dampers 54 which are normally closed but open when the blowers are operative due to air pressure in chamber 32. The condenser (Fig. 5, not shown), comprises a plurality of coils (68) mounted in a frame structure (62, 64, 66) the coils being staggered and held in spaced relationship by spacers (69) having notches (71) in their sides. The frame structure has extended portions (63) by which the condenser is supported on shoulders 46 (Fig. 2) formed in the casing portion 36, which shoulders in turn rest upon supports 50 on the outer casing.
