Abstract
1,058,223. Control and safety devices for burners. COMPAGNIE ELECTRO-MECANIQUE. Aug. 22, 1963 [Oct. 29, 1962], No. 33337/63. Heading F4T. A control and safety device for oil or gas burners comprises a photoresistive cell X in parallel with a relay winding RF which, in the absence of a flame, closes a contact 1RF to energize the starting winding 12 of a singlephase motor M driving a fuel pump and an air fan, and to energize the primary winding of a spark ignition transformer TA, the device being energized through a thermal circuit-breaker D initially by a space thermostat TH. If the burner ignites, the cell X short-circuits the relay winding RF and de-energizes the motor starting winding 12 and the transformer TA. If the burner does not ignite, the relay winding RF remains energized and the current flowing in both the windings of the motor M, is sufficient to trip the thermal circuit breaker D after a finite delay time. If the dark resistance of the cell X falls, the relay winding and hence the starting winding 12 do not become energized, but the current flowing in the stationary motor is sufficient to trip the circuit breaker D. An electromagnetic valve may be connected in parallel with the motor or members (not shown) to delay starting of the motor, or delay disconnection of the transformer.
