Abstract

The surfaces of the nozzle 1 and cone 4 over which the glass or like inorganic material passes in an upward drawing apparatus are faced with a layer 3, 5, preferably applied by vaporization, of a noble metal or alloy, preferably a platinumrhodium-gold alloy, to which the glass will not adhere, the layer on the nozzle extending a short distance above :and below the normal line of the glass surface. The invention, which is described in connection with the drawing of rods or tubes, can be adapted for the manufacture of sheet glass.
