Abstract

1,057,942. Valves. A. IMHOF. Oct. 7, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 39415/63. Heading F2V. In a safety valve which is adapted to obturate flow upon a pressure difference across the valve, e.g. in a motor vehicle hydraulic brake circuit, a resilient cup - shaped diaphragm 3, upon a metallic guide bush 5, has peripheral fluid passages 4 and is displaceable by excess pressure (Fig. 3, not shown), upon an adjustable guide pin 6, into contact with a seat 10 around the outlet 7 to obturate flow therethrough. A bore 15 receives an electric or manometric switch. The guide pin 6 has axially extending grooves (8) (Fig. 4, not shown) to permit relative movement. A vent 4a assists recovery of the diaphragm 3. A conical projection (12) (Fig. 3, not shown) may be provided, rigidly attached to the bush 5, which is a tight fit into the outlet 7 to retain the valve in the closed position. When used in a water pipe, the conical member (12) is pushed out of the pipe 22 by a pin (19) to re-open the valve. Several diaphragms may be arranged in a single housing (Fig. 6, not shown) with electric manometric switches connected in series to a pilot lamp which is thereby extinguished upon closure of any one diaphragm.
