Abstract

A product which forms a gel on mixing with water is prepared by lyophilizing a colloidal dispersion of a water-insoluble mineral substance in an aqueous medium comprising an organic gelling agent, e.g. agar, pectin, carob bean flour, vegetable gum, water-soluble alginate, methyl-cellulose, starch or polyvinyl alcohol. Specified minerals are colloidal aluminium phosphate, hydroxide and carbonate, bismuth oxide and hydroxide silica, carbon and silver.ALSO:A product which forms a gel on mixing with water is prepared by lyophilizing a colloidal dispersion of a water-insoluble, orally active mineral medicament in an aqueous medium comprising an organic gelling agent e.g. agar, pectin, carob bean flour, vegetable gum, water-soluble alginate, methyl-cellulose, water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol or a starch. Specified medicaments are colloidal aluminium phosphate, aluminium hydroxide, aluminium carbonate, bismuth oxide, bismuth hydroxide, silica carbon or silver. Local anaesthetic, cicatrizants, deangestants and spasmolytics e.g. procaine, betoxycaine, allantoin, matricaria, glycine, gaiazulene, sorbitol and tropine may also be present. The product may be made up into pills or tablets.
