Abstract

The disproportionation of olefins is effected in the presence of a molybden-alumina catalyst also containing alkali or alkaline earth metal ions and preferably also cobalt oxide. The catalyst preferably contains 0.001-1.0% sodium, 0.5-30% MoO3, 0-20% CoO and the balance alumina. Reaction is effected at 80-500 DEG C. and 0-1,000 p.s.i.g. for 0.01 second to 10 minutes with an olefin: catalyst weight ratio of 1-1,000: 1 or a EHSV of 500-5,000 v./v./hr. An inert, e.g. paraffinic, diluent may be present. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 972,935.
