Abstract

1,056,532. Filters. PATERSON ENGINEERING CO Ltd. March 12, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 10660/63. Heading BID. An underdrain for a water filtering system, particularly of the pressure filter and "sand" filter types, comprises a plurality of inverted trough-like members 8 positioned in rows on the floor of the filter casing, apertures being provided in their upper parts for the passage therethrough of the filtered water. The apertures are fitted with a length of pipe projecting downwards into the trough and having a radial hole of escape of air. Alternatively the apertures may be provided with screw threaded bushes into which the hollow stems 11 of strainers 12 are screwed. The stems 11 are also provided with radial holes. The spaces between the troughs are filled with grout, with a reinforcing bar 10 held down with rag bolts cemented into the floor. Alternatively the reinforcing bar may be cranked or partly embedded in the floor. The trough-like members may be three sided or arcuate in cross section.
