In a multiposition rotary selector switch having a member which is movable to a plurality of contact actuating positions from a normal position by rotation in either direction and is returned to the normal position by a spring on release, an additional contact set is provided which is actuated when the member is rotated in one sense from the normal position but not the other. As shown, a disc 31 having a plurality of contact tracks 32 which cooperate with respective fixed contacts 33 in selected positions drives a further disc 39 provided with a slipping clutch 40. Disc 39 is driven with disc 31 until a fixed pin 44 engages one end of a slot 45 in disc 39. This limited rotation of disc 39 is effective in one rotary sense to cause fixed contact 34 to engage a printed contact 48 and in the other sense to cause opening of these contacts. In a modification disc 39 is replaced by two discs coupled together by a pin and slot connection and mounted with a slipping clutch on the same shaft as disc 31. The two discs have slots in their peripheries which are brought into register when disc 31 is rotated in one sense but not the other to actuate a cam follower controlling contacts. In another embodiment the control disc carries a plurality of concentred rails which bear on cam followers. The rails are so shaped that they move the cam followers radially outwardly or inwardly depending on the rotary sense to actuate the direction sensitive contact set. Adjacent the rails are further cam tracks which move the cam followers axially to actuate the position sensitive contact sets. Alternatively the cam followers may co-operate with printed contacts on the disc in the selected positions. In another embodiment the disc has a cam rail which cooperates with a fixed member on rotation in one sense to move the disc axially to actuate the direction sensitive contact set. In an alternative arrangement the disc is given a screw motion in one direction of rotation but not the other.
