Abstract

1,056,092. Printing processes. BECK, KOLLER & CO. (ENGLAND) Ltd. Jan. 21, 1965 [Feb. 8, 1964], No. 5382/64. Heading B6C. Designs resembling marble or granite are produced by preparing a photographic image of the genuine marble &c., forming a printing surface, e.g. a silk-screen or a printing plate, from the said image, and printing the design from the said surface, a coating of polyester resin incorporating ground marble or granite &c. being applied after the printing step to complete the design. In one example imitation Greek marble is produced by coating a polished glass plate with polyester resin and printing on the resin with a green ink using a screen prepared by photographing the original marble. The printed coating is then surrounded by a frame and provided with a backing of a catalysed polyester composition including marble dust. The frame and glass are subsequently removed. The polyester may be abraded and polished and a backing layer, also of polyester, may be applied.
